Preserving Local Heritage • Supporting Community Projects

Twyford Heritage

Thank you for visiting the Twyford Heritage website.

Twyford Heritage is a registered charity working with local fundraising groups and community organisations on projects based in and around Twyford, Hampshire. Since being established in 2009, our aim has been to preserve and enhance important local assets, support charitable causes, and help strengthen the long-term wellbeing of our community.

Our first major project was working with Twyford Parish Council to preserve Berry Meadow, an ancient 17-acre water meadow in the Twyford Itchen Valley. We raised more than £27,000 to help the Parish Council purchase the meadow, improve fencing, restore biodiversity within the grassland habitat, and maintain increased public access. In 2024, a further £500 was raised and donated to fund new tree planting within the meadow.

Since then, we have worked alongside a number of local initiatives including Graze Festival, Percy’s Pals, Twyford Valley Conservation, Twyford Community Centre, and GOESA, helping to raise and distribute funds for projects that benefit both the village and the wider community.

Graze Festival, which ran from 2015 to 2018, was a much-loved one-day music, food and arts festival held during the August Bank Holiday weekend in Twyford. As a not-for-profit community event, it raised more than £18,000 for local charities, schools, and community groups.

Percy’s Pals raised £130,000 towards the purchase of a specialist portable CT brain scanner for the Wessex Neurological Intensive Treatment Unit at Southampton General Hospital, significantly improving the speed of diagnosis and treatment for stroke and brain injury patients. In 2021, a further £48,000 was donated to Different Strokes to support younger stroke survivors and their families.

Working with Twyford Valley Conservation, we supported the successful fundraising campaign to purchase a further water meadow in Twyford. In 2022, £116,000 was raised, including Gift Aid, helping to fund the purchase of the meadow and associated costs. The purchase was completed in December 2022.

More recently, we have worked closely with Twyford Community Centre to help preserve the former Twyford Social Club building as a community asset. Twyford Heritage has raised more than £50,000 for this project, including support for legal fees, building improvements, and a £30,000 capital contribution in March 2026 which enabled the full repayment of outstanding loans. The Community Centre is now debt free and generating a small surplus, although further fundraising is still needed for asbestos removal and additional building improvements.

Twyford Heritage is managed by a voluntary board of directors:

  • Mr Roger Walker
  • Mr Mark Kennett
  • Mr Kevin Watson

The directors receive no remuneration and generously give their time to support the work of the charity and the wider community.
